Description
I enjoy seeing tree sparrows at our feeders during the cold, winter months. This one was checking out the seeds that had spilled from one of our feeders. The head turn was special for this photo.
Specific Feedback
We have had some snow and this provided a giant reflector which lightened most of the shadows. Do you think that the WB is too warm for this type of shot? Thank you for checking out this photo.
Technical Details
Z9 600mm f4 (1/5000 sec at f8, ISO 2000; fill flash at -2ev) Denoise, Levels, Crop for comp and enhanced midtone contrast.

Hi Jim
Before I read you setup, I thought the lighting was really nice. The Tree Sparrow color and detail is spot on. Love the eye contact.
Peter
Jim , a little bird, and excellent detail. I love his “curious” pose and perfect head-turn.
Well-done!
A handsome bird and a very nice perch for it to show off on, Jim. Excellent job on the detail and color.
Wonderful – great pose, light, sharpness and tonal detail! The perch is the perfect color for the bird. Not too warm for my taste, but there is plenty of leeway for artistic choice.
I’d be tempted to soften the outlines of the bokeh balls but it probably wouldn’t be easy. No big deal – they are quite “natural” for lenses and nicely minimal here.
Thank you @Peter_Morrissey , @Dennis_Plank , @Sandy_Richards-Brown , and @Diane_Miller for checking out this little sparrow. We are experiencing actual winter weather with snow, sub-zero temperatures and the feeders have been popular with our local and winter migrants…Jim
