Description
It has been a real Winter season here in Michigan with a low of -24 this morning. Fortunately it was 8 degrees with 40mph wind when I took this photo. This little tree sparrow was scanning for seeds that spilled from the feeder. The background is mostly snow and I bumped up the exposure in post processing to boost up the whites for a high key composition. I wish that I brought my flash out which would have added a touch of detail in the eye.
Specific Feedback
I constrained the crop to include the RH branch which placed the subject almost to near center. I can live with that, but how do you feel about this comp?

I like this, Jim. There’s a painterly feel to the image and the high key element works well. I think the comp works; while the bird is close to center, there’s still a lot of room below for it to look into to and the amount of branch present seems just right.
Excellent!! Lovely detail in the bird and branches and the white BG works very well. The comp is just right for my tastes. It’s a vey small thing, but I would consider pruning the branch that exits the right of the frame – just back to the node where it makes the sharp bend shortly before the edge.
Fantastic! I love the high key background and the composition. Just the right amount of space for the bird to take flight and for communicating its size and the airiness of it all.

I played around with a few cropping ideas, but I think yours will be fine. I agree with Diane with respect to the twig on the far right of the frame.
A lovely image, Jim. I would have been tempted to remove the whole of the secondary branch (not just the part exiting the frame) for an even more minimalistic effect. But your shot is super - and congrats.

Hi Jim,
I didn’t notice the right hand branch until you mentioned it. Are you concerned that it loops out of the frame? I would be inclined to “prune” it digitally back to where it makes a right turn and proceeds out of the frame – if that is within your practice.
