Color Burst

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

A few weeks ago I noticed a side street with an excellent color display so I went back to photograph it and did some playing around with pan blurs and zoom blurs.

Specific Feedback

Too much structure for an abstract?

Technical Details

This is a composite comprised of four layers, Two are zoom blurs with different centers, one is a vertical pan blur and the fourth is a normal image. The blur layers were combined using multiply blending modes, the result was brightened and the normal layer was added at low opacity. I used the color picker in LR to bring the yellow saturation up.

Love this! Just my style…
Very well-done!

Wow - vivid! These colors always remind me of the 60’s, they so groovy, man.

I don’t think it has too much structure for an abstract. As Sarah Marino has pointed out, there is a progression of abstracted-ness (my word) in nature abstracts. I certainly wouldn’t say this is representational.

Dennis, I am attracted to the brilliant colors of course. I also like the layered look. Thanks for describing your technique. I wonder if the right side of the image would “blend” a bit more if the reds in the LR quadrant were a little lighter. Amazing effect with trees & leaves.

Dennis, this is quite a combo! The colors stand out well and the ghostly trunks and branches add a fine, subtle touch of reality. Having the zoom effect slightly off center works well also. As a minor nit, the lighter bits in the upper right corner do catch my eye.
