Color Burst

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The lowlands of Western Washington don’t contain many large color swaths in the fall, but we’re often blessed with a nice green foreground as the grasses recover in the fall rains and a tinge of blue/green in the background from the rejuvenated mosses and lichens on the trees. This was taken on a trip a couple of days ago to a national wildlife refuge.

Specific Feedback

The day was overcast with very flat light so I used the TK color masking tool to bring the reds and yellows up quite a bit (too much?).

Technical Details

Sony A1, FE 200-600 + 1.4TC @ 293mm, handheld from car window (they don’t let you leave the car in fall/winter at this location), f/9, 1/1000, iso 3200, manual exposure. Processed in LR & PS CC. Minor straightening and crop.

Dennis, the birds “hiding” in the LRC are an enjoyable addition to this view, making it more than a “fall colors” scene. The saturation in the colorful shrubs and the foreground greens fit together, but their contrast with the trees behind doesn’t feel natural.
