Columbia White-tailed Doe (Lens Test)

Columbian White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianianus leucurus)

I recently purchased a 150-600mm zoom lens to get back into bird/wildlife photography (more for fun, I’m not that good at it)…

Anyway, I have been testing the lens and it’s going back for a replacement. Bad copy that misses the focus 90% of the time. But out of 20 or so images of this doe, I got one good image. If the replacement can do this at a higher rate, I will be very happy.

Specific Feedback Requested

Most of my deer images are of does and bucks grazing on the grasses, so this eye stare was a treat. Also pretty impressed with the low noise in high ISO of the new Fujifilm X-H2.

Any comments appreciated.

Technical Details

Fujifilm X-H2 and 150-600mm lens, 1/125 sec @ f/8, ISO 6400.

What a cutie, David. Those eyes and ears make this photo. Nice capture. When I first looked at this image, the greens in the background caught my eye. Maybe desaturating those a little would make this little guy stand out more. Really nice composition.

Hi David, nice details on the eyes and face. I like the tight on the face composition. Well done.
