Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I really like to find different variations of a subject, as this is a juvenile coming into mature colors.
Specific Feedback
Any shot setting suggestions appreciated, but looking for editing critics. Specifically the Eye. I hope I uploaded the before and after correctly so you can see the eye. I masked the eye and added a lot of color. Main question is did I over do it. I know it heavily edited so I’m not sure, but do you’ll feel it looks Natural?

Hi Carl. the eye might be a just a bit overdone, but I do the same thing with cool red eyes. They’re just irresistible. The processing in general looks good to me.
One thing you might try is cropping a bit differently. We always seem to end up shooting down at water birds and up at songbirds but you can fool the eye a bit by putting the water birds more toward the top of the frame and the songbirds more toward the bottom. It helps give the impression that they’re more at eye level than they really were.
Nice look at the gallinule, Carl. I like the processing you did; the “after” is a definite improvement. The eye is probably a bit overdone, but I’d likely do the same as that eye adds a lot to the image. I like, and have used, Dennis’s cropping idea and it does seem to make a difference.
Thanks for the croping tip, I do shoot a lot of water fowl and I am usually shooting down I’ll definitely use tip.
Thanks for taking time to look at my post, I appreciate all the help I can get.
Hi Carl, I like the cropping you did with more room in front of the bird than behind. I’m not very familiar with this species but I wouldn’t have thought the eye was overdone looking only at the edited version.
Thanks Allen, that’s nice to know. I appreciate the feed back.
