Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is some exposed rock in a desert wash. Geology tells a story in a language I don’t speak.

Specific Feedback

I wonder if there are enough clues about the scale of what’s in the image. I thought the small plant and the twigs were probably enough.

Technical Details

ISO 100, 42mm, f/16, .8 sec.

Don, what immediately struck me were the many layers of rock in your image. Very cool! Your title is perfect for the subject. Yes the small plant and twigs help provide a sense of scale.

I think the balance of the image is good especially with the positioning of the small gaps in the rock on the left and then the opposing one on the right. The curved and wavy lines in the rock layers also add an extra dimension.

Thanks, Alfredo.
