Convict Canyon is one of my favorite areas for fall color in the Eastern Sierra. The high clouds on this afternoon created some nice light and really brought out the color in the landscape. This is looking up a tributary canyon behind Convict Lake, with the side of Mount Morrison in the background.
You have captured some really nice Sierra color. The processing looks good to me. The comp feels a little tight on the sides, but then I generally see more in horizontal than vertical. Funny, I never go up Convict on my autumn east side journeys. I will have to correct that. Thanks for posting.
I really do not have any suggestions for you, Rudy. The line of yellow aspen take me back to the mountain peaks where they are topped off with those beautifully shaped clouds. Nicely done.
If the original had any room below the yellow trees at the bottom I would add it. It feels a little cramped down there. I would change the white balance to make the image overall cooler and then saturate the yellows. I would also move the white point to the right to add a bit more life to the image.
I feel you have to decide whether this is more about the sky or the land and compose accordingly. I believe the sky is given too much space here. I would crop half off and change the sides accordingly.
Rudy, you have some wonderful colors and overall comp of the landscape, and having a beautiful sky is a bonus, but I think if it were me I’d emphasize more features of the landscape, the main attraction to me. I’m wanting to see what else is down below.
Rudy, my comments are the same as Igor’s, I’d like to see the image a little cooler, especially in the shadows. The composition also does feel cramped at the bottom, due to the clump of small yellow trees nearly merging with the frame edge. Hopefully you shot this a little wider and left some room to have more breathing space at the bottom.
The composition in the reposted image has much nice depth. I do think you could crop a bit off from the top so that the nice things going on in the landscape are even more prominent. The color and contrast look good to me.
