Craig the super tusker

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Craig passed away yesterday . The year 2026 began with this bad news.
An African giant has fallen. Craig (1972–2026), the legendary super tusker of Amboseli, Kenya, walked this earth with a calm majesty that could still the wind. A gentle soul, he moved through the golden grasses as if carrying the history of the savanna with him. Thanks to the tireless care of rangers, researchers, and local communities, he reached the remarkable age of 54 and passed peacefully of natural causes—a rare, fitting grace for one so extraordinary.

Your shadow still crosses Amboseli at dusk.

Specific Feedback

I just wanted to post an image of Craig, who was most photographed tusker in the world, loved by so many photographers around the globe.

Awww, that’s sad, but also not as it was a natural, normal death. Praise and thanks to the many keepers who secured the ecosystem so this amazing creature and his fellows could survive and live relatively normally.

I saw his death from Instagram and was saddened by his loss. What an impressive animal and you captured him perfectly with this BW photo. The contrasty shadows pulls a lot of detail from the elephant’s wrinkled skin. The clouds in the sky add to the comp quite favorably. As usual, well done and thank you for posting this wonderful tribute…Jim
