Creepy Crawly (with Edit)

Original

Another from my Fall colors trip a couple of months ago. While I was shooting Fall colors near Park City, I made my south towards towards home and stopped in for a couple days in parts of the Utah badlands, a place I hold dear to my heart. This image was taken just as the sun was rising, with light flittering across these “Creepy Crawly” slithering like formations on the desert floor. In the pre-dawn light, there are dark blue tones which quickly turn brown after just a few moments time. You gotta love blue hour.
The white you see on the surface is not snow but salt??? I believe. There was more of it than I can ever remember making it look like there was fresh fallen snow. Not so. What caught my eye was the way the landscape looked like it was almost alive, crawling tentacles searching…and that little bit of light just kissing some of the higher points with golden light.

Hey David,
Nice looking image here. I would like to see a bit more brightness from those whites. One of my favorite techniques is something Alex Nail teaches by using the curves panel in LR:

Hey Matt,
Thanks for the helpful tip. I had no idea how the sliders in LR actually worked compared to how the curves adjustments actually worked in PS. Amazing tutorial video. I REALLY appreciate the time you took to share this with me and any others who come across this because I know how busy you are. Oh, and I just posted a rework based on your suggestion.

No problem at all David, hopefully it was helpful!

I really like this David. Very nice colours, and perspective from LRC to ULC . I find that I am just drawn in to the scene, especially with the detail and subtle colours in the foreground.
I also would like to thank @Matt_Payne for that LR link…I learned a lot from it. Cheers.

Thanks, Phil. The video has been super helpful. I’ve already implemented it in my workflow. Pretty easy to learn and understand. Thanks again, @Matt_Payne.

Love the blue tones. Also think the comp is strong especially with the undulations of the top 1/3 vs the straight lines in bottom 1/3.
