this was shot in the jungle setting. Lighting is always difficult. The birds don’t stand still for very long. Getting a good profile shot is difficult at times.

A fine image of this bird, David. Excellent detail in the bird and the perch is wonderful and all in crisp focus with that lovely smooth background. Do you remember where in Costa Rica you got this one? I think it may be a Talamanca female from the shape and length of the bill. I tried Google Lens on it, but it’s not that great on females and it’s two best guesses were obviously wrong.

Sorry for the delayed response. Tomorrow is Prairie Appreciation Day and I’ve been tied up in prep work all week.

the only other Hummingbird that I saw with This coloration was an immature I don’t know if you have on your tablet the Costa Rica bird guide. I did not find this in my birds of Costa Rica field guide by Richard Garrigues and Dean. There are so many similarities and some very subtle differences between some of the species. There are so many of them in the Central America area.but yes we were in an area where there were Talamancas.

Hi Davis
This is age great looking Hummingbird.

This is really nice. The detail in the hummer is excellent and I like the composition.
