About This Image

I captured this image in Yellowstone NP in early June. Like all wildlife images, the scene developed suddenly and unexpectedly. I had pulled over to photograph some adult bison, but quickly decided to leave because the sun was in the wrong place. However, before I could pull out and move on, the heard decided to cross the road putting them in perfect light. In a heard of about 50 bison, this calf bison, AKA ‘red dog’, decided to stop and look my way. I happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Feedback Requested

Are there things I could do to make this image more worthy of putting on my wall. I really like the way it looks right now, but are there some subtle things I could do to make it better.

What a sweet little guy. It’s amazing how big they grow…and not so cute.

I love the image as posted, but maybe a few things to consider. I have never been to Yellowstone so cannot comment confidently on the colours in the plant life. To me, it looks to have a bit of a blue/purple cast? Which is gorgeous. Maybe there was a bit of masking toward the right hand side. There seems to be a hard edge betwixt the beautiful OOF background and the sharper plant life? And just to the left of his hind leg there may be something there. A slight vignette may work?

I hope we get to see some more from your trip!

I would remove the dark vertical OOF plant just to the left of the bison. Overall, a very nice comp and like the lighting that was available for the shot…Jim
