Description
This image captures a Darter perched on a rugged, weathered rock. The bird’s slender neck is gracefully curved as it gazes upwards, its beak slightly open. Its feathers, a mix of dark and light patterns, are beautifully detailed against the rock’s rough texture. The backdrop features a clear sky, subtly transitioning from a warm golden hue to a cool, pale blue, enhancing the tranquil feel of the scene. Small barnacles dot the rock, adding to the naturalistic charm of the setting.

Nice image Saundie. Love the brown rock with banded shadows as a perch. The pose of the bird is quite nice with backwards glance towards us. The head/eye seems a little soft. The bit of blue on the right gives a sense of place but since it’s so small I’m wondering if it would be better to try a version with it gone and see what you think. Nice catch.
Gorgeous bird in a great pose, with wonderful feather detail! The simplicity of the rock is such an unusual and delightful setting, with wonderful lighting! No nits!
Beautiful, Saundie. The rock is awesome and the darter is in a very nice pose. I find myself going back and forth over whether the water in the far right is necessary or a distraction. I think it might depend on the use of the image.
Don: I really didn’t appreciate your image until I opened it to fulll size. I love the bird’s pose which gives us a great look at its feathering. The smothness of the perch serves to accentuate the detail in the bird. No nits from me and congrats!
Thank you so much for checking out my image and for the positive feedback!
Allen, I was determined to get some of the ocean in there, but I see what you are saying. I was wondering if a less tight crop, showing on both sides of the rock, might work better?
Hi Saundie. while I like both compositions overall, I think I have a slight preference for the original - bird is bigger in the frame and off center. I think the nits I brought up were quite minor for a terrific image. Love seeing these. Keep them coming.
