Drinking Tom

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I captured this tom turkey drinking at our birdbath side lit by the sunset recently. No water drips, no birdbaths showing, just an openmouthed turkey pose.

Specific Feedback

Cropping? BG sufficiently blurred?

Hi Dave, nice seeing the eye like this and that little nubby thing on top of the head. Crop looks good to me. BG looks okay to me. I see what Sandy is saying about burning down the highlights even though I think the ones on the lower neck are so far gone they’d just turn gray. Nice catch.

Cool light through the eye of the turkey, Dave. In this case the highlights on the breast don’t bother me as they look like natural sheen and you expect that to reflect the sun.

Hi Dave
I like the framing, highlighting the open bill and eye contact. The highlights don’t bother me, but as Sandy said you could look at reducing the lower neck some.
