I think this is a beautiful image, I love the minimal nature of the scene, the play of lines and contrasting colors which build a very effective composition. Very very nice. Maybe (maybe), I would slightly crop it at the lower side, but it can be a matter of taste and balance feeling - which is rather personal. In any case, a splendid picture.
Beautiful image! I love the subtle complimentary colors and the lines. My subjective suggestion would be to slightly decrease the saturation of the orange at the top. It is so internse compared to the rest of the photo that it draws my eye there, away from the rest of the photo.
Dunes are funny in that sometimes they work and you don’t know why. This is exquisite. It’s the color gradations and where they are. I thought the sky was taking away some of the more subtle beauty of the dunes by its presence. I tried to compensate for the sky with the lower dune enhancement. I tend to look at shapes and balance as opposed to narrative. I think the sky is still too strong, maybe. I did a sloppy job but it’s to show the idea.
Gorgeous! I love the softness and subtleness of this. Not soft as in out of focus, more soft as in color and contrast. A very unique takeaway from the dunes.
I would agree with the others about the intensity up top. That was my first observation. I think it really detracts from the subtle beauty (and color) of the primary subject.
I think I understand where Igor was trying to take it; rather that just deal with the sky, enhance the dunes as well, bring the two elements closer together. I do think that can be accomplished just turning down the sky; more towards pastels to match the dunes. Oh, and I love the processing in the dunes, espectially the subtle warm/cool tones.
I could see this as a large canvas hanging in a lobby somewhere…
I wondered if the image might benefit from having some of the white area at the bottom cropped out. I copied the image and tried a couple of crops. The results weren’t as good as what you have.
Firstly, congratulations on submitting a photo that has drawn so many differing opinions.
For me, I first look at the sky and then my eye travels to the various sand areas. There is a slight disharmony to me, due to the large area of sand which forms the triangle on the lower right. I have cropped it in my mind, removing a small amount of the very bottom such that the left hand edge of the sky and the left hand edge of the sand at the bottom are the same size. Somehow this quietens my mind as the sand and the remainder of the photo feel about the same size.
I really like the simple design and the pleasing color palette of the dunes. The only thing I would suggest is repetitive of what others said about toning down the sky? Which I thought was actually another dune cause I see ripple patterns in it like in the sand.
This image rework is stunning! I haven’t been on NPN for a while, but this caught my eye in the summary email and I had to look at it larger online. I won’t repeat what everyone else has said, but I do love the subtle tones and the lines and triangles. Well done!
This is wonderful Mario; my favorite that you’ve posted from here. It stands out in its simplicity. I love the tangerine and blue mixture of pastel color. The rework is my favorite.
Is that sky at the top? I thought it was colorful dunes.
