Ebony Jewelwing

July is Ebony Jewelwing damselfly time. They like to hang out in bright sun along small heavily wooded streams, which makes getting a decent exposure challenging. This is a 10 shot stack to get all of the damselfly sharp. (R5, 180mm macro, 1/60 s, f/10, iso 1600, tripod, 70% FF)

Oh wow, Mark, this is a real beauty, and what details in her as well. The hairs on her legs just stand out nicely. I love her pose. The leaf makes a wonderful perch she gave you, and that BG is nice and smooth. Great shot.

What a beautiful df, Mark and a terrific image. Tack sharp with a wonderful background. I’m not familiar with this particular specimen. Well done.

Excellent!! Wonderful stacking and a cool specimen and perch. I’ve never seen a damselfly like this. Need to expand my range.

Wow, that is a fantastic insect and terrific job on the focus stacking. Wow.

Hi Mark,

This species does not play nice with photographers, but you managed to catch this one napping. Excellent sharpness and all I suggest is to bump up the shadows and darks to show off those wings better. Still an awesome shot…Jim
