The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Thanks to Diane Miller for identifying the flower species and suggesting I post it in Flora.
I was working with a new fast prime lens (getting back to my DSLR days) and the Tarweed was a perfect subject to test sharpness and out of focus qualities. I will be keeping the lens.
Specific Feedback
Any comments appreciated. I have embraced my B&W roots for most images other than birds…so does this one work in B&W?

I find the comp very interesting. Black and white version is appealing due to the stark contrast in the blooms. I might try to reduce the brightness of the OOF flowers in the BG to see whether the comp is strengthened. Other than that I think that the image is a success and the lens is a keeper. Well done…Jim
Nice! 35mm and such a shallow DOF. I would keep the lens too (were it not that I have too many already…). Very well composed imho with the focus of attention right near to the middle of the picture. I have never seen this flower before, so nice to have a sharp look at it now. Well done.
@Jim_Zablotny, @xavier1, and @Sandy_Richards-Brown thank you for the comments and suggestions. I have toned down the background and reposted above. Let me know if that works.
David: Interesting effect from the repost. I do think it is an improvement and the slight boost in brightness on the main petals enhances the contrast nicely. I agree with the others regarding the comp. Nicely conceived and executed.>=))>
Lovely and refreshingly different! I love the shallow DOF and the arrangement of the BG flowers – a bouquet with lovely bokeh. I wouldn’t have thought about darkening the BG but it is very nice that way. The bright yellow of this flower translated to B/W very nicely!
Beautiful, David, particularly the repost. I really like the composition and the depth of field you got with this lens and the bokeh of the background are excellent.
