Eye to Eye with an Otter

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I came upon a pair of river otters agreed to coexist with me for a while. They DID look at me a lot but didn’t bolt. It was a kinda busy environment they were in. I liked this capture the best of the ones I got.

Specific Feedback

Too busy? Cropping okay?

Technical Details

This is a nice portrait of this otter Dave. I like the straight on look it’s giving you. Nice detail in the mustache and whiskers. The water plants do a nice job of framing the otter too.

Not too busy for me, Dave - rather a typical otter river habitat as it fishes around the plants. A lovely sharp catch of face and weed-flecked whiskers. I’d be tempted to brighten (and possibly enlarge) the catchlight in its right eye, but perhaps I should resist such temptations.
