Fall in Maine V

I’ve been busy recently, but I just had a bit of time to jump back into my Baxter State Park photos. I loved this section of river on my first visit in 2018, so I went back again this year, and was not disappointed. This is pretty similar to an image I posted two years ago, but the color and stream flow were both much better this year. It was less windy too, but still windy enough that I had to up the ISO for the trees.

This is really well done. It’s a simple subject yet feels very ‘honest’. It has an authentic beauty without trying to dazzle you.

I like the muted color palette. It suits the image well. Nice flow throughout with the curving water.

Craig, this is a great intimate scene. I just love that lichen covered boulder, it makes for a very powerful subject. I like how you made the boulder more important to the image than the fall color, good call. I also like how the white water sweeps my eye across the image. My only suggested tweak would be to try warping the leaning yellow tree in the ULC, to correct the distortion. That is pretty minor though, overall this is a very nice image.

Thanks @Igor_Doncov, @Michael_Lowe and @Ed_McGuirk!

Igor, I appreciate that description of the image. I would not have been able to articulate its qualities that well.

Ed, I looked at that ULC, and I think those trees just lean a lot, because the evergreen just behind them is pretty straight.

You are right Craig, those trees must naturally be leaning a lot. I should have known 40mm was not wide enough to create this much distortion

Really nice color palette and capture of flow here… such a serene and relaxing scene  … the only thing I would point to, is that I’d like to see the curvature of the white water on the extreme right part of the composition on it’s entirety, that would kind of complete the forms in this image. The yellow trees on the left hand side, I would also like to see them in their entirety, without their tops missing. I still love the image anyway, just to be clear  Nicely done Craig!

Thanks Nikos! I agree it would have been better with the full arc of water on the right, and I also would have liked to have more of the yellow trees, but unfortunately the sky is right above the frame there.

I see, thanks for the insight Craig.
