Image Description
I saw this tree at skidway island state Park, I thought it would make a good black and white photo because of the deep textures in the roots.

I over exposed slightly to increase contrast.
Pertinent Technical Details
I used a Pentax k70 and 50mm da lens. I selected the b/w mode and selected the orange filter to bring out the contrast.
Timothy, this is an interesting root ball. I particularly like the big roots and how they cross near the middle. Since there’s now visual reference in this to up and down, I am thinking that rotating the camera to have those big roots more parallel to the long axis could make for a more frame filling view. (Of course, I don’t know what may be just outside the view…) I find the very dark roots in the upper left getting too much interest, so I’d suggest some dodging there as well as cloning out the few very bright spots in that area.
Hello Mark: Thank you for the review , as to the area outside the frame at the bottom was a.patch of grass which I thought distracted from the composition and at the top was open sky which created a.negative space.so I moved a bit closer to eliminate them.
