Driftwood beach

Image Description

Driftwood beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia is always a highlight for nature photographers. The trees tell a story of time and loss. The root systems are incredibly thick and create some cool images.

Christine, this is a great tangle of roots! Your placement of the tangle works well and you’ve got good sharpness throughout the tangle. As someone who does a lot of focus stacking, I would like that bright vertical near the righthand edge to be sharp, but burning that in so that it attracts less attention should also work. The contrast really lets this view pop.

Thank you @Mark_Seaver!

Christine, I find this image to be the most striking of all the images in this week’s challenge. I think this is definitely for the reasons that Mark has pointed out, i.e. contrast and sharpness, but also the spot in the center right where the roots radiate out from gives the eye a point to focus on.

The tonality here is excellent with a full range of tones.

In my opinion, the central group of roots radiating outward from the point is the star of the show. I am wondering if a square crop from both sides would accentuate the curves there. Doing so would also eliminate the out of focus vertical root on the right that @Mark_Seaver mentioned.

This is a fine image, for sure!

Wow! Really appreciate this feedback and comments! I tried to dodge the vertical piece a bit and also just used Preston’s idea of a square crop. Thank you again everyone! @Mark_Seaver @Willemd @Preston_Birdwell
