Fallen wood

Part of a self designed on going project is the photographing of the dead and fallen trees in Funks Grove, IL. Mostly I have converted them to B&W, and taken the photos in late fall and early winter.
This one I chose to leave as color.

For most images, the viewer is going to look at the brightest part of the image first. Here, that is a bright sky. If your subject is the wood, think about how your edit and exposure influences where the viewer looks.

I think that Matt nailed it right on the head. I agree that darkening the background would make the subject, which looks amazing by the way, really pop.
