Female rose grosbeak

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

It had been some time since I had used this blind at a local nature area. I was happy to see a male rose breasted show up at the feeders, but had little chance to have a more natural situation. I noticed the female in a tree some distance from me. I thought she was posed in a very nice enviroment and took several shots of her before she left. I actusally like my photos of the female better than those of the more colorful male at the feeders.

Specific Feedback

The subject was in a tree some distance from me. The leaf in front of her could be considered a distraction. I like it. Is is a distraction or reduces the interest of the image.

Technical Details

Canon R7 with the R 200-800mm lens. Taken at 800mm.

1/1000 @ F 10, ISO 1000

taken from a blind.

Oh she’s pretty and yeah, the setting with the frame of leaves is really nice. Ours should be back soon, we get a couple pairs that take territories on opposite sides of the yard. I like that her feet are visible, but the leaf behind her beak is a bit much…ymmv, but I’d see about removing it. Wow - a 200-800, that’s gotta be the size of a horse’s leg, but wow, it is serving you well! I don’t mind the leaf in front, but it looks really pink/magenta to me.

Thank you for your comments. I will check thecolor

Hi John, nice pose on the bird and I like the leafy setting. I do agree with Kris that the stem and leaf right behind the beak can go. The larger leaf in front does not bother me. I enjoy seeing the nice head turn giving us a good look at the side of the face. I agree these females are real beauties in their own right. BTW, I use the R7 and 200-800mm as my main bird and wildlife set up also. At 800mm, it has quite the reach.

Thank you for your comments. My computer skills or lack of keep me from removing that background leaf. The 200-800mm is becoming my go to wildlife lens.

Very nice pose and detail, John. I see the pink/magenta in the background ,. but no where else, so I suspect it’s a structure or something back there. The leaf doesn’t really bother me. QA very fine image.

I like this, John. The foliage, bird, and light make for a cheerful, spring image. Good pose as well.

Thank you for your kind words.

John
