The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I wanted to create a frame within the frame utilizing the two trees.
Specific Feedback
I found the biggest challenge was to get the trees and the falls in focus. I also wanted to ensure the waterfall wasn’t blown out, thus balancing the exposure was an issue.
Technical Details

Hi Doug,
I would say that you succeeded rather nicely with using the trees as a frame for this lovely waterfall. The greens look very natural and it looks as though you have sharpness front to back in the image.
I don’t know what model camera you have, but if it has the capability you can always shoot extra frames with focus shift to get enough DOF or just do it manually. The water exposure looks just fine to me as it does have some detail. I always check my histogram to make sure the highlights are not blown and go with that exposure. You can always bring up the shadows in processing. This turned out beautifully. If you don’t mind, what is the name of this waterfall?
I like the framing of this image, there’s something about how the curve of the tree on the right is similar to the curve of the lower part of the waterfall - it’s very subtle but I think makes the image enjoyable to look at.
One minor tweak I would suggest is to darken the foliage on the bottom left, I find myself drawn to it when I think the focus should be the waterfall. I also wonder whether the tree on the left could be slightly darker for the same reason. I’m only talking small amounts here and I’m sure it’s personal preference.
Thanks for your comments. I agree with your assessment and will make the adjustment. I couldn’t figure out how to darken the foliage on its own but if I darken the tree I think it can be done. Thanks for your input.
