A dramatic composition, with the very still water adding to the suspense. I really like the crop. But I wonder if there is a way to achieve a spooky/gloomy look without so much underexposure. The histogram isn’t clipping blacks significantly but I have to wonder about a little more stretching of the darks – i.e. bringing out some more detail.

Hi Steve, Wow, this is a cool image. I love the reeds and reflections contrasting with the lines on the gator. I agree with @Diane_Miller that it could be lightened up while still keeping the gloomy feel. That’s of course a personal take. If your intent was to keep this dark then it works nicely. Either way it’s a great image and a bit creepy for me personally (I am pretty spooked by gators, since I lived in Jacksonville, FL and my apartment overlooked the ST. Johns river with plenty of gators taking residence in our courtyard).
