GBH: "There goes My Breakfast!"

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

A flock of young pelicans visited a small pond near Selah, WA. It was morning and the sun was very bright. From my vantage point the only view was into the sun. I didn’t see the GBH until I viewed the image on the computer. The pelicans swam closely together and would suddenly stop and start feeding, and then move on to their next food stop.

Specific Feedback

I cropped off the top and bottom. Removed a stick from the water. The dark spot in the upper right is troubling, but I could not seem to do anything with it.

Technical Details

R5; 100/400@400; handheld; 9.0; 640 ISO; WB: daylight; -2/3rds; 1/2500th.

A pretty contrasty image in the harsh light, Jim, but the title tells it all. That poor heron is going to have to find another hunting ground. A great find.

Dennis, thanks for commenting. A lot of contrast; I agree.

Hi Jim, nice catch in the strong light. I think you handled it well. The splashing water adds interest to me. Agree the GBH better just move on.

Hi Jim
You had me at Pelicans, Nice low angle with great interaction with the Blue, My only nit, is cut off the heads of the Pelican pack on the right side of the frame. Some how having the Pelicans in a clean lead and loosing them on the left side of the frame might look better. (I know sometime we just cant get everything in the frame).
Peter

@Peter_Morrissey Thanks. I agree, I should not have cut off the lead birds. I am not sure why I did, because there was room on the right.
