What artistic feedback would you like if any? I personally like the mood that the soft focus gives this image.

Any pertinent technical details: Canon SX50, F/0, 1/80 sec., 18mm

Here is the sharper image. I have also removed the large lupine (also have the softened image w/o the large lupine). My personal preference is the softened version. BTW I did not use the Orton software, I used a Topaz selection to soften the image. Fine line on where to post. Maybe it should be in Photo Art.

I really like this composition. It looks like time and attention were devoted to have all the components placed well within the frame. This sort of reminds me of the work Harry Lichtmann did in NPN 1.0 with some New England fields of lupine. He concentrated on making it razor sharp where this seems to be using the Orton effect. I’m just reading up on this feature, so I’m not that experienced in it but I might reintroduce some sharpness into the flowers and have them stand out against the dreamier vegetation. Or not. I like the dreamy flowers as well.

Not much of substance to add. There’s a bright green leaf near the left frame.

Patricia,

I just love the colors here. Igor mentions the dreamy vegetation, which is just what I’m thinking as well. Which leads to being torn on taking this further (more dreamy) or wanting some more sharpness in the flowers as well. I’m not sure you can have both. The upper bg is soft, which in this comp is perfectly fine as the dof is fairly shallow.

As presented, this is downright beautiful and painterly.

Patricia, I like the composition here a lot, it’s a nice balance between the lupines and the interesting stuff in the background. I like the arrangement of the pool, trees, and island in the background, it makes your eye zig- zag through the scene from front to back. The colors and saturation look very natural. I’m not sure about the application of Orton here though. To me this image is somewhere in between a straight landscape and a painterly piece of “photo art”, so I think you need to decide what you are trying to say with it. I think an even stronger application of Orton, and perhaps saturation to the lupines would turn this into painterly photo art. If you are aiming for a straight landscape, the shapes of the lupines are interesting enough that i would like to see them sharp, but with the soft background. If you had blurs in the lupines due to wind, then it would be better to take this more in the painterly photo art direction.

I like this. It feels very natural to me. I love lupine and photograph it every summer. I like this combo of soft in the BG and sharp in the FG. I am on a laptop, not a great monitor, but this looks sweet to me. Nice comp and feeling of depth in the scene.
Love that Lupine!!!
