I love the vibe of this, although it’s almost too much about the snow and not enough about the Moose. If it was my shot, I’d probably use a mask to reduce clarity and texture on the background in order to reveal more of that awesome moose! You could even do a radial gradient around the moose to further accentuate him.

Nice shot , especially with no prep! The snow is great, but it occludes the moose, especially his face. Paul’s suggestions to define the moose more are good ones. A bit more room below the moose would be good , if you have it.

Paul Thanks for taking the time to take a look.
I am going to try a re-edit this and take your advice.

Sandy thank you for your suggestions Iam going to try a new edit of my picture.

I love this one Mathieu. Tough situation to work with, but the ghost of the moose in the thick snowstorm is awesome.

Ed Thanks so much.
I been paying around with this shot but end up coming back to this edit.
I really like it as well.
I even printed a 12x12 on fine art rough paper and it even looks better.

here is a color version

I think I like the B&W better.
What do you think?

I actually almost always like color better than BW Mathieu. In this case, I definitely like the color version better. Just my taste. They’re both great though.

You can actually post them both under your original post so people can more easily compare them. You just use the pencil icon, and then past the new image either in front of everything, or behind the first posting. You just should let people know by editing the title bar that there is a new color version.

Thank You !
I really appreciate the feedback.

I’ve been hoping you’d try an edit - almost missed it, though. I like the colour version even better, and your revision is also much better. Good job!

When you do an edit, add " +Edit " to the title line, so people know there is an edit. Also, if you add the edit to the original post, people can see it next to the original.
To do this: (From the FAQ)

Posting a Revised Version of Your Image: (plus my editions that hopefully clarify some points I struggled with)

When receiving critique, it’s good practice to implement the changes and post a revised version in the original topic.

  • Edit your original topic instead of replying. This allows you to flip between the original and revised versions in the lightbox.
  • Click the pencil icon at the bottom of your topic to edit and upload your revised version.
  • Add the revised version at the top of the post to update the thumbnail.
To do this, place your cursor at the very top of your post after clicking the pencil icon to edit your post. Click on the “download” icon 4 icons to the right of the lightbulb, and upload your new version.
  • Click the pencil icon right under your title and Add “(+repost)” or “edit” to the title to indicate a revision. Click ‘Save Edit’ when finished.

Fantastic atmosphere here, Mathieu. As others have noted, the moose is getting a bit lost in the environment. I think for this reason I prefer the color version.

That’s not to say black and white isn’t the right choice, but I do think it could be rendered differently: specifically, with more contrast to make the moose stand out more.
