Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

I’m a sucker for trees, especially gnarled ones. Colorado has many to choose from. These were taken on various hikes in the mountains around Denver!

Very nice group of shots. My favorite is the first one. Nice high key look. Well done.

Thanks Dave, I think that’s my favorite as well.

A nice collection of trees that shine in B & W. I like the thrid one. It is high key like the first but the line of the trees on the right point into the center. The overall composition is contained in the frame unlike the fist one where the tree line goes to the margins of the frame on the right. Overall very impressive.

Hey Sarah your focus on trees is paying off in great compositions. Fun also to see 1 and 3 in the high contrast treatment, white sky, and 2 and 4 with sky and clouds. Tough to say which is best but definitely more drama in the high contrast – they have an artistic quality of a pen and ink drawing. One concern: I would note that the wide lens is causing the trees to lean in unnaturally. I would think a different lens, and a slightly different shooting position, could fix that.
