Description
Mike and I made the short trip over to Susquehanna SP one evening last week in search of redbuds and dogwoods. We were a little early for the dogwoods and our usual locations for the redbuds did not pan out as they were very underwhelming for some reason this year. That meant turning our attention to something else. There are no grand vistas so intimate landscapes were the order of the day. While hiking a trail along a little knoll is when I spotted these lovely backlit spring leaves off in the distance. This was my favorite image from the short excursion.
Specific Feedback
Balance with the trees look okay? Anything else you notice please feel free to mention it.

Ed, I too have been out looking for this kind of backlit spring leaves, with very limited success. This does a fine job of showing off the dark trunks and the bright leaves with them spread very nicely across the frame. For what ever reason, this year’s redbud season was short and not especially colorful.
Hi Mark,
Glad you enjoyed the image. I too did not have a lot of success capturing backlit spring leaves this year; although I thought this one did work nicely. I agree, the redbuds were pretty much a dud this year; even the one in my yard. I have usually been able to count on that one for something.
Ed, I love how you’ve filled the frame with your composition. The leaves are nicely glowing and you managed to find some interesting trees to hold it all together. There’s just enough hint of color in the BG to make a nice backdrop.
For having so much chaos in the scene you have a very nice layered effect with the dark trunks and the backlit Spring leaves. I think I like those dark trunks the best in this scene. They all seem to be playing nicely with each other and in no way does it feel cluttered. You picked a very nice section of trees for this tight shot, Ed. Everything is tack sharp as well. Sorry to hear about redbuds and the dogwoods. I’m heading to Yosemite in a couple of days and hope to get both species on that trip.
