About This Image

The sun was at about two o’clock and was just hitting this area. The plants were mostly backlit. I had to shade the lens with my hand as I took the shot.

Feedback Requested

I have two concerns. One is that the color and contrast may be a little over the top. The other is that the subject matter may not fascinate a lot of viewers. I was essentially photographing the light with the first decent composition I could find. All comments are welcome.

I think it was the light you were after here and I agree that it is worthy. The different shapes and heights of the plants shows how it interacts with physical objects and I like that variation quite a bit. Whether it fascinates anyone but you is besides the point if I may be so bold. The contrast looks fine and the rhythm and flow of the various plants is harmonious.

Don,

Gorgeous light!

I was thinking something similar. My thought is that the light is gorgeous, repeating myself, but it is light that I get excited about in the field. This is a scene that I WOULD photograph; a scene that moves me. Fleeting light… moments in time that will never be repeated.

The question is, and who cares, how do non-photographer’s respond to these scenes? In my experience… this beauty goes right over their heads…

Kristen, Lon, thank you. This light is available almost every day. I’ll probably use it again with different subject matter.

Don,

Beautiful light on the FG grasses, it really makes them pop. Further, the way the light drops off as the eye moves into the frame to the dark BG is great. I think the color is spot on given the light that is falling on the grasses and the contrast is good giving the FG grass good separation and crating a layering effect as you go deeper into the frame.

Hi Don,
I can see why you were drawn to the light because the warm glow is flat out gorgeous on those grasses. I also think the darker BG helps accentuate that wonderful light. The color and contrast look just fine to me and the image appeals to me.You can not please everyone; besides it would be boring if everyone always liked the same thing. Bottom line; if you are happy all is good.

Neither of your concerns are concerning to me. I think the color and contrast are what makes the image, and don’t consider them over-the-top. I think late light catching shrubs and low trees is beautiful, and others must agree because you sure see a lot of images that run with that theme. As you’ve captured here, it’s an enchanting effect.

My guess is that compositionally this was a “song that never ends” in regards to the bottom of the frame? My only wish is that all, or none, of those plants along the bottom were cut off. I fully realize that’s often impossible though.
