This was taken from a boat mid afternoon with harsh light. Wish I could’ve been a little closer but I really like the backdrop.

Hi David, I really like the pattern of repeating green reeds as a background. Very dynamic. Nice low angle for shooting also. I think this is well composed in terms of crop and space around the bird given the background. As you say the light is rather harsh - some of the top feathers on the bird seem overexposed.
A very cool background, David. To my eye , the Egret looks just a tad soft for your normal work, but the setting carries this image for me.
David, the setting does look very good, showing off the bird well. I’m with Dennis in thinking that your focus was on the reeds, with the bird’s head just a tad soft.
