Hi, Simon - welcome to a great group!
You have posted a couple of interesting images. In the Nikon Z6, eye/face detection only works with the “Auto-area AF mode” , and you’ll probably want that mode if you’re trying to focus on birds. You didn’t mention what lens you’re using, but for birds you’ll need a fairly long and fast lens to be close enough for the tracking to catch hold of the eye.
Looking forward to your images andparticipation in the critiques and discussions!
These are bird images, so should go in the “Avian” category.
I am using a 70-300mm Nikkor for my Z6. Although I have played around with Auto Area AF, it cannot seem to track any birds for me, but it does work exceptionally well on humans. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
Thanks for mentioning the avian section I will keep that in mind for my next posts.
HI Simon. Somehow I missed this when you posted it. This makes a very fine environmental/behavior post with a very typical chickadee pose. It would have been nice if the bird had cooperated more and given you enough of a head turn to make some eye contact, but sometimes they just don’t want to cooperate. The gray sky and beautiful leaves set the season very well.
