Habituated Red-tailed Hawk

I took this image at a National Wildlife Refuge yesterday. I first saw the line-up of cars some distance back and two folks had managed to completely block the road, so I waited until one of them finally cleared the area. After taking some shots I went around a corner to shoot back at it, but didn’t have much luck because people like this lady kept parking right beside it. It was totally cool with that and even preened itself. It didn’t take off during the ten minutes or more that I was in the general area. For reference, the post it was perched on is within 5 feet of the roadway.

Dennis, I find it amazing how some of the wildlife gets accustom to people, vehicles, etc., and don’t seem to mind. He sure was doing a fine job at posing.

Great catch! Wonderful you had one of those newfangled zooms!!
