Description
I’m sitting on a tree root when this blue heron lands about 50 feet from me and walks into the water. The morning sun was coming in from the left, and I thought it was great on his face.

The only editing I did was to bring in some contrast and texture to the overall scene. I warmed up the sunlight on the reeds slightly as well.

Very nice morning sun and detail in the heron’s plumage, Gary. I don’t think you needed to boost contrast and warmth in the overall scene as it kind of makes it compete with the heron, but I didn’t see the original. Nice job leaving plenty of room for the hidden legs as well. If you have it in the original, I could see a bit more room on the right. The nice crisp, bright eye makes a great focal point in this image.
Gary, nice image. I agree with Dennis’s comments. I don’t think you need to lift the contrast and warmthness here. You could almost do the reverse - negative contrast or dehaze but applied only to the background behind the heron. Also maybe the highlights on some of the grasses in the front of the heron could be pulled down, allowing the heron to pop even more. Really depends on how far you want to take your processing.
