This is another perspective from the same off trail adventure to this beast of a waterfall that I posted a week or so ago. Any and all CC is welcomed. I really love how the water eases my eyes up to the 200+ foot upper tier at the top of the image. I tried to crop out as much of the uninteresting sky as I could while maintaining balance. Thanks for checking it out!

Also, is JPEG acceptable to upload on here? Should I be exporting as .DNG or .TIFF? Noob question but I have always wondered what was best.

Looks like an awesome spot! I think your composition works well to lead the eye towards the larger waterfall. One thing I would look at is it seems the rocks have a magenta tint to them I would try to tone down them down slightly.

Jeff,

I really like the main cascade and rock here and how you’ve composed this to emphasize the main subject. The waterfall in the background works for context, and becomes more challenging given the bright sky above the top of the falls. (Tops of falls are a very difficult issue to contend with, not just here.) But for me, even though this is technically a “near/far” composition, there’s really no lead-in or connection between the two because we can’t see what’s between the top of the rocks and the distant falls.

What I really like here is the cascade and especially the aqua-blue waters. For me this is the image.

Agree with David about the magenta color, mostly in the rock areas withing the Cascade. The other comment is that the shadows and the image in general appears a little “muddy” - as if the shadows were lifted globally? There’s a kind of hazy lookm mostly in the upper half. Now, I’m guessing much of this up top is due to spay, so that makes sense, But I think in the rocks center to the image, I think this could be worked on a little bit.

Hi,

Very nice scene except for the very bright sky above the falls. My treatment may not be acceptable to you but I cloned out the sky, darkened the top with a graduated filter, darkened a little overall, darkened the shinny rocks and cropped a little off of the top and bottom.

Thank you all for the feedback! All my adjustments are global, I’ll have to go back and try and do some more local adjustments instead with shadows/highlights. My next progression I think is going to have to be using more range/luminosity masking.

Jeff, this is a beautiful waterfall, and I like the position that you shot it from. I too am learning to try to adjust targeted areas in my images more than just global, and I found that this article on NPN was very informative. Lightroom Processing by FEEL
You may have seen it already, but just in case you haven’t, I thought it good to put the link in. We are all looking to improve, not only in capturing our images, but to edit them to appear somewhat like we remembered probably. Hope it helps. Looking forward to more of your images.
