Image Description
While paddling the CT River estuary, this Diamondback Terrapin (I think!) kept me company for a few minutes until moving on.

Pertinent Technical Details
Both images: Fuji XH-2, XF 70-300 + 1.4x extender @ 420mm, ISO 640, f/8, 1/500s; both cropped about 25%; adjusted exposure and cloned out some sun sparkles on the water.

Jim, these are both good looks at a very striking turtle. I especially like the first one where you can see it’s body through the water. When I look at the larger views, both look just a touch soft. I’m guessing that is resolution loss due to the TC, which I’ve seen in my own lens testing. (It’s also possible that 1/500 may not be fast enough for hand holding that much lens in a canoe.) You may be able to improve the apearance with some micro contrast adjustment (clarity if you’re using Adobe software).
@Mark_Seaver, thanks for your positive and helpful comments. Yes I agree, I thought the nose was a little bit soft so I’ll try your suggestion.
Jim, I tried it. In PS, I had to create a duplicate layer. Then I could apply an unsharp mask with an amount of 100 and a radius of 4. I then masked the layer and “painted in (25% white, multiple strokes)” just the area around the head. That makes a notable improvement in the nose of V1. If you do this over the entire image, you can get halos and other artifacts.
Hi @Mark_Seaver, wow that’s a noticeable improvement, thanks very much and will have to make a note of that process.
Jim,
This is really an outstanding image now that you have made the changes and done the repost. Very sharp. Looks great. Nice job!
Well, thanks very much for the positive comments @David_Schoen. However, it was @Mark_Seaver who completed the changes and repost. I had done it also so I guess it’s [past] time for me to post it
