The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
The stamp mill is a huge set of buildings in Bodie, where ore from the mines was crushed to pull out gold. It is a ghostly structure with many irregular levels and strange open stairways. This was apparently some sort of office, with both windows indoors.
Specific Feedback
All comments welcome! I would have been happy to get a focus stack but I was on rickety footing and handholding – no way to manage a tripod in there and attempts at a focus stack didn’t work. It was spooky dark. Focusing on the back window was intentional.
Technical Details
The SS was 1/20 sec. Minor tonal adjustments in LR then into PS for NR and a B/W adjustment layer. A little dodging and burning but nothing heroic. Cropped to 65% of the original pixels.

Diane, All your great Bodie shots have convinced me to try again - I was signed up for a workshop a couple years ago, but then could not go.
This is another very interesting image. Love the focus on one small area through the window.
Masterful!
A very interesting image, Diane. I’ve been looking at it quite awhile trying to analyze what I like about it since on the surface it’s mostly either out of focus or blurred by dirty windows and reflections. The focus on the far window was a great idea and is what makes this image work for me. Other than that the slightly uneven lines in the window structures speak of age and perhaps hasty workmanship (my dad would have had a fit over that glazing job). The whole composition speaks of emptiness and desolation.
Diane, this image is kind of quirky, however, it does tell the story of a long abandoned, dusty place. I certainly know what it means to be in such a space; I just want to get an image and get the heck out of there. Most of the time iIhad wished I could have spent more time looking at possibilities. Glad to hear you did not fall through the floor boards,
Thanks, @SandyR-B, @Dennis_Plank and @gDan52! Definitely a quirky place – could be the set of an Indiana Jones movie. Very rickety and mysterious. This was a workshop group with limited time, and we could only access a small part of a cavernous set of buildings stuck together. I had to wonder how long access will be safe. I have lots of images and am still plowing through them.
I absolutely love this image. I find this image over the last one you posted. It’s full and emotion and revelation. I feel like something is exposed something that is within and part of that maybe due to the shallow depth of feel which suggests but doesn’t expose everything clearly. It captures ghotsts.
Thanks, @Igor_Doncov!! I was drawn to it right away and had almost no time to work with it, but instinct proved OK. This is definitely a ghost-filled building!
YES !!! I really love this image. That old school black and white vibe. The Tone of this image is so good. Just has that look that i really love. Nice work Diane
