I was too early for the peak bloom (if there was one this year) in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. There were some Cleome in bloom in a few places and this is probably the best of it.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Don, this is wonderful. I recognize this particular formation, having photographed it myself. But I’ve never been there with the blooms. I love how the flowers frame and accentuate the hillside shapes. I’ll have to remember this for next year.
Well done on the processing too. What time of day were you there?
Cheers,
David
Hi David,
I photographed that image at 9:45am. I would have liked to get there earlier, but even getting an early start from John Day, it seemed to take forever to drive to the Painted Hills. Of course there were a couple of stops on the way for photo ops.

This sure is a beautiful photograph, and I love how the flowers seem to spill through the scene. It’s also quite nice how the color of the flowers complements the sediment so very well. My only suggestion would be to lessen the contrast just a hair by increasing the brightness of the black point to visually soften the image a bit. It already has so much rich color and texture, and if it were to have a bit less contrast, it might feel even more uniform and flow even better. Very well seen and captured Don!
Wonderful color. texture and form. Well composed !
On seeing the thumbnail, at first I thought this was a macro of the inside of a flower, with pollen sprinkled on the petals. Quite the opposite, it appears now! I like when a photo can give us illusions like this. Makes an interesting abstract.
These are the type of compositions I prefer to make at Painted Hills rather than the broader views. I like the organic shapes you have come up with here. My only suggestion would be to make this slightly brighter. The yellow flowers do add a lot to the image. I might also saturate the reds a bit more but that’s a personal preference.
Don,
This is wonderful! Kudos for seeing and capturing this more intimate view. Love this. The colors are rich, but not overly so. The flowers accentuating the lines really top this one off.
Can’t say I have any suggestions and certainly no nits. A beautiful image indeed.

Thank you for your comments. Although I tend to like my photographs on the darker side, (maybe its my mood from paying attention to the news) I did brighten this one up and preferred it brighter.
This is really really nice. The color combo here works well and I like the way you composed it as well.
