Just Hanging Around

Image(s)

Image Description

This image of a brown vine snake was taken in Costa Rica in 2023 during a guided hike through the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. The hike through the refuge without a guide would have been great, but having a guide made it so much better. This vine snake was hidden inside a brush making it almost impossible to locate. He blended into his surroundings almost perfectly and his body swayed with the breeze just like the vines and branches that surrounded him. This snake tends to grow to around 6 feet long. It was impossible to determine how long this one was, but I could see that he extended into an open area of the brush about two feet.

I love the singular focus on the snake’s head, with the blurred vegetation, especially the suggestion of foliage on the right side. Overall, the background is like a watercolor wash, setting the snake up perfectly.
