In order to get the best view, angle and get closer to this killdeer that I spotted below the river walk bridge, I needed to climb down to and jump over the drain ditch and then climb up onto the dam wall. It was fun!

Specific Feedback Requested

So for any who saw the previous photo with this same bird on a log. This is a little bit different background and 3 different poses. Whatever thoughts and feedback are welcome!

You are getting the light behind you which is pretty important and getting the bird to look towards and not away from the camera which is more important… It has to be a pretty special photo if the bird (or an animal or a person) is looking away…It sounds like you tried to get low which is also very important… getting as close to eye level always works better ( do you take photos looking down on people? , I doubt it. Shooting up is the same thing…)
You are getting the most from your equipment I think.
You never need to go lower than iso400, always better to shoot as fast as possible.

Thanks Dan! I always like to get at eye level if I can! I’m glad this has that appearance, but I couldn’t get in the river!

Really excellent points made by Dan. And you had fun!!. Of the three I like the first pose and bg the best. Quality is not great perhaps from a crop but still a very nice pose. The second is also a nice pose with a bit of a walk. The third does not work for me. The bird is looking up at the sky to check for danger and that bit of wood is very distracting.

Interesting input thus far. My take is that the third has the most potential. I tend to like the bird looking up, but I agree with David that the bright log is a big distractions and I don’t think you have good enough image quality to crop that out. The first would be my second choice.

Good to know, about the image quality. Everyone is really helping me to understand that better. I tried cropping the wood but then it looks unbalanced for some reason to me. I guess I shouldn’t waste so much time on a bad photo anyway!

Thanks for your input Dennis! I’m not positive, but I think the bird was looking up because my camera is loud and I was clicking away!
