Late Fall Reflections

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

It was very quiet, walking beside the C&O canal in Maryland on a bright, breezy, late fall day. Where I often see dozens of turtles sunning, I saw two! The breeze stirring the waters created multiple striking reflection abstracts with a full spectrum of fall colors, from the white trunks of the Sycamores to the warm browns from an Oak, green from a leafy shrub (likely an invasive Honeysuckle) and the bright blue sky.

Specific Feedback

To get details in the ripples, you need a moderately high shutter speed. You also need good depth-of-field to avoid noticeable sharpness changes across the frame, and, of course, the strength of the breeze makes a big difference in the size and shape of the ripples.

Technical Details

R5, 100-500 @ 300, 1/200 s, f/10, iso 1600, tripod

A very nice reflection abstract, Mark. I like the way the ripples have completely erased the sturcture of the reflected objects in this one.

Nice one, Mark. The changing colors across the frame really make this.

Mark, I really like the copper, tan and green tones in this. It is so shiny. Nicely seen and saved for us to ponder.
