I shot the leaf from a low angle to allow some shadowing from the ripples in the snow. It is centered to allow the shadows to lead away to the upper right without distractions in the lower portion.

Merle, the leaf and snow look very good. The warm brown of the leaf stands out as do the details and the long shadows in the snow. I think that moving the leaf lower and to the left so that it’s full shadow is in the frame would be good.
Well thought out and a very good subject. I like how perhaps the wind has created a bit of hollow adjacent to the leaf. I could also see the leaf a bit lower in the frame.
