Light Dancing

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

In the regular frame of reference, this was a reasonable composition, but only so-so. However, adding the dimension of the IR spectrum the lights and shadows seemed to dance.

Specific Feedback

Anything. As a bit of a novice to IR, I find that many of the critiquing tools don’t work as well in addressing tonal ranges.

Technical Details

Nikon D850, Tokina 17-35 @28mm, f/11, 13 sec, ISO 100 +0.67 EV Tripod with a screw-on Hoya 720 Nm IR filter.

I don’t do the standard IR conversion, but rather work in channels to get the tonal balance I like, then work the rest in NIK’s SEP3.

A very cool image, Chris. The leading lines are mesmerizing and I still have no idea what’s going on with the lights, but it’s very “science fictiony”.

Thanks, Dennis. Just lens flare. I chose not to use the lens hood, pretty much so I would get that effect.

Chris, the high contrast does a fine job of showing off all of the lines and shadows. The lens flare is a great addition and does add a touch of intrigue.

Thanks, Mark.
