Lone Ranger

While doing some hard drive and LR cleanup I came across this image from our 2011 trip to Yellowstone. We were staying in the Madison campground and decided to come down to the Old Faithful area for breakfast and a shower. As we approached the turnout I spotted this lone bison grazing contentedly by the river. There was actually a moment of spotlighting but it faded before I could get stopped and set up. So it goes. I still like the scene and the light and the hints of steam along the river bank. What a magical place this is! >=))>

Specific Feedback and Self-Critique

I did boost contrast a bit to bring out some color in the grasses. Too much, not enough, just right?

Bill,

Wonderful capture. I’ll come right out and say that if it weren’t for the grazing bison I would have immediately asked about including the bend in the river. But the animal completely changes what this image is about and so that’s a big “don’t care” on the river.

I’m loving the textures and colors in the grasses as those meander and lead the eye through the frame. As well, the steam coming off the river.

Beautifully photographed. No nits or suggestions.

Great title and wonderful photo.

You’re taking me back to one of my favorite places, Bill. You rarely see a lone buffalo like this but it’s what makes this scene so special. I love the curve of the river exiting and then re-entering the scene and taking you straight to the buffalo. You also reminded me to go back through the archives to try and dig up some oldie but goodies. I’m going to give that a try, Bill.

Bill,
This image really gives the viewer a sense of place of Yellowstone NP. I think the solitary bison makes this unique and I love the textures of the autumn hued grasses along with the steam coming off the water. The contrast looks perfect to me. Nicely done!
