Description
Lonesome Doug: I had mixed emotions about visiting lonely Doug, this lone tree was like looking at an endangered species, which Doug is, old growth Douglas fir.
Lonely Doug is the 2nd largest Douglas fir tree in Canada and one of the largest Douglas fir trees in the world.
In 2011, logger Dennis Cronin discovered the enormous tree in a forest that was going to be logged for timber. He wrapped green ribbon around the tree with the words “Leave Tree” repeated along the ribbon, saving it from being cut down.

I love this, Pat. I like the way the top dissolves into the clouds. The second place my eye lands is on the foliage in the lower right, which is obviously closer and gives the image depth. The whole thing evokes a feeling of solitude.
A few small things: The tree seems too dark in light of the haze. Some of the areas in the lower right also seem a little too dark. There’s also an intruding branch two-thirds of the way up on the right that you might want to zap. Here’s a rough modification. I think I’ve overdone a couple of changes. But if you don’t change anything I’ll still love it.
Hi Don,
I’m not sure how “Pat’s Photo” was added to the bottom of my Image, but it should say Alice’s Photo. Not sure how to change that.
Thank you for the feedback and the edit. I like what you’ve done. I did internally darken the tree because it is the focal point of the photo, but I think I went to far.
Again, Thanks
Alice Wilson
