This shot was taken on 11/28/15 just before 8:00 PM. I’d been shooting all evening and finally got to the point of a long exposure without ND filters (I had none). I feel it’s actually one of my better images taken early in my photography experience. Revisiting some old images and thought I would put this one out there for feedback.
Open to any and all comments and suggestions. Thanks in advance for taking the time to review!
What technical feedback would you like if any? Any offered!
What artistic feedback would you like if any? Composition thoughts? It’s been suggested I should composite birds into the sky. I have a problem ADDING elements but do not mind removing them. ANy thoughts along this line?
Any pertinent technical details: Nikon D810 30 sec exposure 24mm f32 ISO 64

Looks really good to me. Great color gradient in the sky and the overall mood with the water is real nice.
I am in agreement with you on the adding of things. I do some cloning but I never add anything. Nothing wrong with people doing when disclosed, but it is not for me.
Wow! What a scene. The colorful gradated sky, the long-exposed blue water, and the pleasing shapes of those green rocks. I see no need for improvement on the composition or technical side of things. As far as adding elements, I am not a fan of this. I will clone out small elements to clean up a scene, but I won’t add anything that was not present in the original shot. Of course, this subject is personal opinion, and it has been argued elsewhere extensively. Anyway, you have a fantastic shot here. Excellent work!
Nicely done, David, love the fg elements and the color gradient in the sky; no need to add birds in this image, I think they would be too much of a distraction from this simple, pleasing comp.
Gorgeous scene - although for my personal taste the saturation is pushed a little to far; of course withing the realm of personal choice. The warm/cool color combo is beautiful here, as is the color gradient in the sky.
Beautiful effect in the water around the rocks with the long exposure. And for me, the icing on the cake is the line of clouds on the horizon. As small a footprint as they have, they really make this image work.
Regarding the adding of elements, I agree with those chiming in. Over time, I’ve become pretty liberal at the use of cloning things out of my images and even cloning in by filling in small gaps in a tree canopy with some leaves to fill in a bright spot… Yes, pretty hypocritical actually, but as Harley mentions, disclosure is the key. As to this particular scene, having birds in the sky, regardless how they got there, would disrupt the beautiful color gradient. My .02.
David, I am enjoying this scene very much! The colors are really fantastic and the composition is quite clean and simple. I do not think that adding birds would not help it. I also would have never added to a scene but do a small amount of cloning out. As others have stated, disclosure is the key IMO.
