Good-looking dog! I think the BG could be nice with a hint of detail, but depending on what it was, it might take compositing to get something nice. I think with the white BG you could have an effective composition as a vertical, taking a little off the right and a bit more off the left, where nothing is happening.

I never thought about vertical for this photo… I am going to try it. I agree the left it maybe too open with nothing.
