Minnow Maze Texturized

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

These minnows were seen off of a dock in the bay of Portland Island off the coast of BC. The light shading was created by the railing of the dock. The color of the water so lovely, and the minnows were dancing through it.

Specific Feedback

I posted both versions of the image as Original and Texturized. They each have their qualities that I like, but I’m curious which version others respond to the most.

I like both versions , but - since I love Photo Art and abstracts - I think the second version is especially cool.

Quite striking! You could do a lot with this shot, as you have started doing. Great tonalities and shapes. Possibly a narrower ratio top to bottom would enhance the sense of movement. Nice depth and light. Really fun and a nice moment in time. It reminds me of some of M.C. Escher’s work.

Kristin thanks for your comments. I’m kinda new to the abstract thing. “You could do a lot with this shot, as you have started doing.” What ideas came up for you?

You could do odd crops, split toning, cyanotypes and then there’s the way this would make a great addition to a merged image - a composite.

I think the original is so wonderful that it doesn’t need any artistic enhancement. And that’s from someone who loves to play with artistic enhancements and assorted eye-candy trickery. I do it in PS where I have control, but it is fun to play with the iPhone apps.
