Description

I thought I might bring some color to this challenge . A number of years ago I attended a medical conference in Los Angeles and took a few days to make a side trip to Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Yosemite NP. On the road back into Kings Canyon I spotted this bunch of cat tails and decided to switch into macro mode from landscape mode.

Specific Feedback

One of my earlier digital images taken with my second DSLR. A couple of years before I was in a quandary about which system to go with as I had a Minolta film camera and many thousands of $$$ in Minolta lenses but Minolta was the last to get into the DSLR game. When Sony bought Minolta I didn’t have to switch to Nilon or Canon. The Sony A100 was their first foray into the DSLR world. At that time the jury was out on whether Sony would commit to further DSLR development. Of course they did and look at how far they have come! This image was shot with the A700 which confirmed their commitment and was a vastly superior tool than the A100. I still have my Minolta 200mm macro lens which is the patriarch of my current system.

Technical Details

Sony A700
Minolta 200mm macro

Bill, I love the color and the light in this one. Fine detail on the cattail. I love the bright vivid colors. Feels like Fall.

Bill- a good reminder that “monochromatic” is not only B&W - which is really “Grayscale” - but anything in only one hue.
This is a neat image, with fine detail and bright but well-controlled and uplifting colours.
Personally, I’d like to see more of a pano crop, with longer cattail stems.
Nice find!

Beautiful reflection of fall, Bill. The wonderful array of colors from pale yellow to deep orange feels (even smells) like autumn. Thanks for sharing with us.

Bill, the golden tones in the cattail leaves look great and are very warm and inviting. The details in the seed head also look good, with the seed head standing out well because of it’s texture. Definitely a strong fall feeling, here.

Bill, this really caught my eye. I think you did very well to control the highlights.
Maybe the comp would benefit from a slightly longer stalk at the bottom, but overall I love this!

A fine EP - congrats, Bill!

What a fine image, and worthy of EP! Nice job, Bill!

Well-deserved Bill; what a beautiful image.
